Nagaland Info: “The Land of Wanderlust.”

  • Nagaland is a mountainous state in northeast India, bordering Myanmar. It’s home to diverse indigenous tribes, with festivals and markets celebrating the different tribes’ culture. Its capital city of Kohima.

  • Agriculture is its most important economic activity, accounting for over 70% of its economy. Other significant activities include forestry, tourism, insurance, real estate, and miscellaneous cottage industries.
  •  It is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna.
  •  The Nagaland Assembly proclaimed Indian English as the official language of Nagaland and it is the medium for education in Nagaland. Other than English, Nagamese, a creole language based on Assamese, is widely spoken.
  • More tribes means more culture & Nagaland is the home of 16 prominent tribes and other sub-tribes.
  • Hornbill festival is an annual festival started by the government in 2000, to celebrate the different culture, rituals and believes of different tribes of the state.
  • Kisama, located 10km from Kohima, is a Naga heritage village which protects and preserves the cultural heritage of Naga people.

  14. Longleng: Longleng is known for its adventurous 32km road that is often taken by thrill-seekers. Longleng is the home of Phom Nagas, who are considered exceptionally skilled in pottery, bamboo work and spinning. The market place in Longleng is the major attraction, which till today maintains its old charm. The Phoms are also known for preserving their traditions and culture by the means of their festivals and artefacts and the best time to visit Longleng is during the festive season.
