Atal Tunnel in Guinness World Records: The name of Atal Tunnel Rohtang connecting Manali and Lahaul Spiti of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Guinness Book of World Records has awarded the Atal Tunnel, which passes at a height of 10,044 feet above sea level, as the world’s longest traffic tunnel. The length of the tunnel is 9.02 km. Director General of Border Roads Organization (BRO) Lt Gen Rajeev Choudhary has been given a certificate by the Guinness Book of Records. Let us tell you that this tunnel has been made by Indian and Austrian companies Straubeg and Afcon.
According to the information, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had announced the construction of a tunnel in the year 2002 at Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti. During that time the cost of the tunnel was estimated at Rs 1500 crore, but after its completion, Rs 3600 crore has been spent on the construction. After the formation of Atal Tunnel, the distance from Manali to Leh has reduced by about 45 km and now one does not have to go to Rohtang Pass to reach Leh. Now it takes less than five hours to reach Leh. Along with this, Lahaul Spiti district is also connected with the country and the world in winter.
Atal Tunnel Rohtang was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3 October 2020. Since then, Atal Tunnel has become the first choice for tourists across the country. Now every tourist going to Manali goes to see it. The tour of Atal Tunnel from Manali is about 30 km. This is the world’s first tunnel, which has 4G connectivity. There is an emergency tunnel every 500 meters in the tunnel, which comes out at both ends of the tunnel. CCTVs have been installed every 60 metres. There is a control room at both ends. From Atal Tunnel Touri is about 30 km.
